Welcome to my brand new blog!

I thought I would do a little introductory post just to let you know who I am and what to expect from my blog.

About Me

Claire Business Owner, Dog Trainer and Behaviour Consultant of Pet Poppins Dog Training

I am Claire and I run Pet Poppins Dog Training. I have been running the business for over 10 years and  I am a passionate animal advocate and currently share my life with two Spaniels; Poppy and Bear and a cat; George.

The thing I love to do with my dogs apart from snuggling on the sofa with them is Canicross, which is a running dog sport. I also love getting out on the hills with them.

Prior to starting Pet Poppins Dog Training I was a nurse for 16 years and I have a  Bachelor of Science Degree in District Nursing. Working as a nurse has definitely given me the experience and skills of communicating with people on a personal level.

I am certified dog trainer and behaviour consultant with over 10 years experience of working with dogs and I am a member with distinction of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and member of the Pet Professional Guild British Isles.

Lifelong learning and continuing my personal development is very important to me and I have completed many courses over the past few years. This ensures any training or behaviour modification programmes I advise are backed up by the most up to date scientific research.

I am currently completing an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour and Management. I feel that studying to a degree level has ensured that I can continue to develop professionally at a high academic standard.

All training recommended and taught is force-free, rewards-based, ethical and evidence based.

What that means is that I will never recommend any equipment that will cause your dog pain or fear and I will never recommend training techniques that cause pain or fear.

About the Blog

I am aiming to add a new blog post every week and these are going to be a mixture of puppy training advice, adult dog training advice, behaviour research updates/news and recommendations of great dog businesses in the local area. I will no doubt share some updates on any of my own achievements or news regarding the business.

Topics coming up soon are: loose lead walking tips, recall tips, best private dog fields and lots more.

If anyone has anything they would love to see a blog post on or recommendations of great local dog businesses, please drop some ideas in the comments section.

I ideally want the blog to be as useful as possible to my clients and supporters.
